Changing times at the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board.
Cecile Marcino has been elected as the new Board Chair at the Inaugural Board Meeting after serving as Vice-Chair for the past 18 years. Marcino says she’s prepared for the position as she has already been a part of every committee within the board and she says she’s excited to work as a team to meet the needs for kids in the north.
She also says there are some big shoes to fill as she will be replacing long-time Chair Dave Penney who had stepped down from the position earlier in the year to be a Councillor in Ignace.
As for the Vice-Chair position, 3 trustees were nominated which were Gerald Kleist, Dave Cornish and Barb Gauthier. After a vote, Gerald Kleist was successfully elected to the newly open position.
Director of Education Sean Monteith says there will be a bit of a learning curve with the new roles, but he believes having change can also bring many improvements to what they do. Monteith also says in the over 20 years he has been with the board, this is the first time he has seen an election of two or more candidates.
