KPDSB Not Surprised By Provincial Funding Cut

The Director of Education for the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board says the news could have been a lot worse.

Sean Monteith says he wasn’t surprised with a 25-million dollar cut to a provincial program that gives schools money for things like leadership programming.

“Is leadership development and leadership training important to the board?”, says Monteith.

“I would say it is. We’re going to have to find ways of making that priority stick.”

Monteith also says the board will just have to make adjustments and says it will be the “back office” side of things that will be reduced.

He says people should feel reassured that the interests and needs of children will be maintained.

Monteith urges specific programs surrounding special education, children mental health, broadband access and outreach work with Indigenous partners have all been maintained.
