A Lakehead University Political Science professor thinks Barack Obama’s rejection will be the last word for TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline.
The President has put a cap on the seven-year saga, saying it doesn’t serve the national interests of the U.S.
Laure Paquette says it doesn’t come as a surprise, as Obama has been signalling that he was going to say ‘no’ for a long time.
Paquette says the decision is yet another blow to Alberta’s oil patch, which is already spooked by the Prime Minister’s decision to add the phrase “climate change” to the environment department’s official name.
Obama has advised Prime Minister Trudeau of his decision.
Paquette says reviewing the environmental process is one of the 28 promises Justin Trudeau has said he’d look into immediately upon taking office.
