Federal Minister of Labour Patty Hajdu is defending the government’s decision to use back-to-work legislation to end the rotating strike by Canada Post workers.
Hajdu says people are relying on a service that is essential to all Canadians, noting small businesses are being dramatically impacted.
The Thunder Bay-Superior North MP says for well over a year, the two parties have had the support of federal mediation services.
Hajdu notes she has appointed and re-appointed a special mediator, adding both sides aren’t interested in voluntary arbitration.
She stresses the time has come where action must be taken.
Hajdu is urging both sides to negotiate hard to try and reach a new deal.
