North Dakota officials are examining eight options to address water shortages in the Red River Valley including a proposal to divert water from Lake of the Woods.
Engineer Rick Walden, a Canadian advisor to the International Lake of the Woods Control Board, notes there is little that can be done at this point.

Walden anticipates a public comment session is likely when and if the proposal comes before the International Joint Commission.
The proposed pipeline would go from Warroad, Minnesota to Drayton, North Dakota where water would be transferred to points further south such as Grand Forks and Fargo.
