Lasting Memories And Partnerships For Youth In Red Lake/Pikangikum

A chance for team building and strengthening relations with our Indigenous communities.

Last Saturday, members of the Red Lake High School Boys Basketball team travelled to the remote First Nation of Pikangikum for a Basketball clinic and scrimmage.

Rams Coach Darrin Bausch says they were invited by a school teacher and the school principal.

Bausch says it was an incredible experience, stressing everyone gathered in a positive and hospitable environment.

He says the visit to the new school gave his players a great perspective that the kids they met are just like them.

Bausch is hoping the trip opens some doors for more partnerships between the schools and the communities, whether it be sports or other activities.

He adds he’s proud of the kids, noting there were plenty of smiles, adding his players were great ambassadors of Red Lake school and the community.

Bausch mentions that one of his kids has family in Pikangikum and notes it was nice to head north to share that experience with him.
