Lakehead University will soon be home to the first law school in Northern Ontario.
The program will have a strong focus on aboriginal law as well as legal issues related to practising law in rural and remote communities.
The university expects the law program to have an enrolment of 55 students beginning September 2013.
The Law Society of Upper Canada had already approved a proposal for the school, which the university has said will give preference to Northerners and First Nations applicants.
There are currently five law schools in the province, all located in central, eastern or southwestern Ontario.
