Teaching young children the importance of knowing the Anishihinaabemowin language.
Students from Wabigoon Lake and Eagle Lake participated in a Language Bowl this week in Kenora.
Event spokesperson Pat Copenace says students went through various stations learning new words and their meaning.
Copenace says that learning the language helps students better understand their identities.
Indigenous youth from Grade 1 to 6 from a number of area schools took part in the event.
Copenace says that age group tends to pick up new languages quicker.
The Kenora Catholic District School Board and Bimose Tribal Council teamed up to host the Language Bowl.
