NDP Critic Calling For Compensation For Mercury Poisoning Victims

The Wynne government is failing Grassy Narrows and White Dog First Nations struggling with mercury poisoning.

That’s the claim from NDP Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation critic Michael Mantha.

Speaking at Queen’s Park, Mantha stressed they are still waiting for action from the Liberal government.

Mantha says the community has had to fight and scrap for action, with no response from the government.

He is demanding compensation for mercury poisoning victims.

Mantha adds the First Nations are now fighting to get access to their own hair and blood samples to demonstrate the extent of mercury contamination from the Wabigoon River system.

He’s also demanding that the Liberals follow through on a promise to set up a mercury treatment centre in Grassy Narrows.
