The provincial government is being encouraged to fix the problems plaguing a computer system set up to handle the distribution of social assistance cheques.
Northwest Community Legal Clinic’s Trudy McCormick says she’s seen first hand the impacts of the SAMS system, not just on recipients, but also on their staff.
McCormick told a legislative committee in Fort Frances that in one case, attempts to cover a persons heating costs lead to them getting a letter stating thousands in overpayments.
