As Dryden deals with the possibility of a 7.5-percent increase in taxes, Fort Frances has come up with a much lower number.
Council will introduce its budget to the public next Monday, which includes a one-point-eight per cent levy increase that will translate into an average tax increase of less than one percent.
Mayor Roy Avis says it’s good now, but they will have to look at what’s going to happen a year from now.
He points to possible reassessments, out funding, and no reconciliation from the government.
Even though it’s hard to tell what’s going to happen in the future, Avis says he is giving staff high marks for helping council come up with an appropriate budget for the community.
This year, a home in Fort Frances that’s assessed at one-hundred thousand dollars last year will pay just under 70-dollars extra in taxes.
