A political blow to Liberal Prime Minister Trudeau with the defection of one of his members to the Conservative Party.
Toronto area MP Leona Alleslev made the announcement in the House of Commons saying she wasn’t able to get her views and concerns heard in a serious way by anyone in the Liberal caucus.
“The leader of her Majesty’s opposition and his team have a firm grasp of the urgent issues we face as Canadians and the resolve to confront them. And it is my duty to align myself with those values.”
This is the first defection from the Liberal Party since they were elected to govern.
To my constituents, I am the same person you elected in 2015. I believe in a strong federal gov that leads Canadians. But to achieve what you demand of me, I must change parties.
