Liberal MP Says Let MMIW Inquiry Do Its Work

A northern Ontario MP is urging critics to let the Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls do its work.

The latest set-back is another high profile individual leaving the Inquiry, claiming federal government interference.

Thunder Bay’s Patty Hajdu says this is a fully independent inquiry and she’s not sure about the nature of the allegations that the lawyer is making.

The former Minister of Status of Women says the inquiry is a huge investment of time and energy for both commissioners and families.

Hajdu says while there may be voices calling for a “do-over”, there are an equal number of voices saying please don’t stop, please use the information that has been provided.

She is hoping and expecting a full, comprehensive report and some constructive actions that the government can and can not take to ensure this tragedy ends
