The Winnipeg High School Football League says it continues to take steps to improve player safety.
Commissioner Rick Henkewich says at this time they won’t follow the CFL and eliminate contact from daily practices.
Henkewich says they have so many young kids playing the sport for the first time, that they have to have them introduced to hitting.
However, he says their coaches teach players the proper way to receive and deliver a hit and stresses player safety is their number one priority.
Henkewich adds they have limited the amount of time you can hit in Spring Camp.
Henkewich says they will introduce new rules in December limiting the number of hours you can hit in Main Camp, but says they haven’t come up with a concrete number.
He notes their coaches have always been focused on ensuring players stay safe and understand the situation that is in front of them.
Henkweich ends by saying they will continue to monitor the situation.
