The head of the Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls isn’t asking the Senate for a time extension.
However, Marion Buller has suggested that the commission could do a better job with more time considering what has to be studied.
Buller admits they are constrained by government policies and procedures which don’t work well with an Inquiry.
She notes many of the women who have been marginalized want to talk to the commission privately, rather than in a public setting with cameras and lawyers.
Buller says their vision is there will be a Canada where Indigenous women and girls have reclaimed their power and place.
Senators were also told by Commissioner Michelle Audette that criticism voiced during the Summer about the Inquiry has been taken to heart and changes are being made.
