Local Leaders Bring Up Issues At AMO Conference

The annual Associations of Municipalities of Ontario Conference is in full swing in Ottawa.
Local leaders from across the northwest are raising issues of concern with provincial ministers and other delegates.
Dryden Mayor Craig Nuttall says they have lined up 4-meetings and will be lobbying for funding to fix Duke Street as well as talk about expansion plans with the Ministry of Natural Resources at the Dryden Airport. Nuttall adds he would like to see the government expand the east-west corridor, and plans on speaking with Minister of Northern Development and Mines Michael Gravelle about the issue.
The road is seen as a must for future mining projects in the north.
Nuttall says the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation mill assessments will also dominate discussions, and notes that they are making some progress.
Meanwhile Sioux Lookout Mayor Dennis Leney says he will be meeting with the Ministries of Northern Development and Mines, Natural Resources, Housing, Long Term Care, Energy and a representative from the Ministry of Health.
Leney says his hot button issues include more long term care beds and establishing a Youth Detention Centre in Sioux Lookout.
Leney adds land ambulance non-emergency patient transfers is another topic he will bring up.
