Local Leaders Send Condolences To Pikangikum

Local politicians are sending their sympathies to the First Nations community of Pikangikum.

There are multiple deaths reported in a house fire just before midnight Tuesday.

Reports indicate nine people perished in the blaze, however Provincial Police have yet to release a formal statement.

Kenora-Rainy River MPP Sarah Campbell has tweeted “My thoughts are with the community members of Pikangikum as they mourn the loss of family and community members.”

Kenora MP Bob Nault has released a statement stating he extends sincerest condolences to the family and friends who lost loved ones.

He adds it’s always difficult for us to hear when something like this happens in communities within our riding.

Nault says the federal government will be there to support the community in any way they can.
