Natural Resources Minister Greg Rickford says developing the Ring of Fire shouldn’t be politicized and suggests the Premier should keep discussions out of the media.
Rickford says he’s had positive and on-going discussions with Northern Development and Mines Minister Michael Gravelle and notes the two of them continue to move forward.
Kathleen Wynne continues to demand $1-billion in matching federal funding.
Rickford says it’s too early to commit additional funding.
Rickford adds the feds and Ontario still have to sit down with First Nations and the private sector to discuss needed projects.
The Kenora MP notes they’ve already invested millions in skills development, education and training.
Rickford says with the Build Canada Fund in place and the end of the provincial election, they should now be able to have a rational, non-political discussion about the real things that need to be done to develop the massive mining project.
