Local MPP Addressing High Hydro Costs At Dryden Hospital

Kenora-Rainy River MPP Sarah Campbell says the provincial government is hindering, rather than helping local health care facilities save money on electricity.

Campbell says the Dryden Regional Health Center has been looking at alternatives to save on their sky-high hydro costs.

However, Campbell is accusing the Liberals of failing to help the hospital with its plan to go “off-grid”.

She claims the government is refusing to give them funding to implement their plan.

Campbell says electricity costs at the Dryden facility have gone up 44% in the last five years.

Energy Minister Glenn Thibeault says the Liberals recently announced 64-million dollars for hospital retrofit programs, so more money can go into patient care and less into operations.

However, Energy Minister Glen Thibeault says the government has promised $64-million for a Hospital Energy Retrofit program, so they can spend more on front-line services rather than operational
costs.
