The provincial government is being taken to task for the most recent report on food bank usage.
While the number of people in Ontario using food banks decreased last year by 4%, the number of children being served is increasing.
Kenora-Rainy River MPP Sarah Campbell says nearly 34% of people using food banks are kids.
Campbell adds more and more post-secondary students are also turning to food banks because they are struggling to make ends meet.
She stresses the government is failing families and children in need and is asking the Premier to admit it’s not doing enough to address the issue.
The Hunger Count survey also shows about one third of food bank users are on disability support programs and there has been a 14% increase in the number of Ontario residents using food banks over the past seven years.
