Minister of Indigenous and Northern Affairs Carolyn Bennett is looking forward to hearing the recommendations that will come out of the inquest into seven First Nations teens deaths in Thunder Bay.
The teens lost their lives after leaving their home communities and moving to the Lakehead to attend high school.
Bennett says she’s saddened the current system in place has failed them.
Bennett notes it seems that having young aboriginal teens leave their families to fend for themselves has cost them their lives.
She adds it takes an inquest to uncover the various elements that lead to deaths and she is promising change.
