Local Reaction to Possible Merger

The Provincial Government has indicated it plans to start merging
surgical programs to one Hospital in each region.
That has sparked instant concern that Northern Ontario residents may be
forced to travel great distances if Hospitals consolidate services.
Dryden Regional Health Centre CEO Wade Petranik says some Hospitals in
the region are already having a difficult time with current patient loads.
Petranik notes it’s too early to tell if this region will be included and notes the move makes sense in Southern Ontario.
He stresses the situation locally is completely different and
local residents shouldn’t have to deal with the vast travel distances.
