Local Teachers Union Passes Two New Motions

The Northwest Unit of the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association has approved two new measures to strengthen the organization.

Members have voted to establish a Status of Women’s Committee as a regular standing committee as well as donate $500 to Education International to support teaches affected by the war in Ukraine.

Officials say they hope that through the new committee, they will be better equipped to serve the concerns and needs of women and families in both workplaces and in local communities.

Furthermore, the Unit says it is largely disturbed by the unprovoked Russian invasion of Ukraine and unequivocally stands with the sovereign state of Ukraine during this time of hostilities and aggression.

The OECTA is a local labour union representing over 120 permanent and occasional teachers in Dryden, Sioux Lookout, Atikokan, Fort Frances and Stratton.
