Surgical Backlog Continues To Grow

The backlog of surgical procedures appears to be getting worse.

The Ontario Medical Association puts the number at 22 million, up a million from February.

President Dr. Rose Zacharias says that is having a strain on people’s mental health.

“And people are just showing up sicker as a result of these missed appointments and people have become more dysfunctional as a result of their missed knee replacement surgery or missed hip replacement surgery.”

Dr. Zacharias says their number doesn’t include routing school-based vaccines and regular check-ups that have been delayed because of the pandemic.
