Long Term Care Wage Debate

The Provincial Government says its policy of not
funding wage increases for public sector employees will not change for those working in long-term care facilities.
The facilities say the policy is creating problems for them if independent arbitrators award unionized employees pay increases.
Ministry of Finance Spokesman Scott Blodgett says they are aware of awards that have already been made, but will continue with the wage freeze.
The province’s largest union of long-term care nurses will
enter mediation at the end of June.
