This is election day and there is a two person race for Mayor in Ear Falls.
CKDR News talked to Incumbent Kevin Kahoot and challenger Lynne Reynolds.
Question #1: What are your main issues as Mayor?
Kevin Kahoot: “Affordability and community well-being. Focusing on keeping water rates and taxes down as well as addressing rising policing costs”.
Lynne Reynolds: “The affordability of the town. Costs have been going up considerably in the last few years. I will be looking at ways to keep the affordability down, especially for seniors.”
Question #2: Stance on tax rate. Is an increase needed?
Kevin Kahoot: “It’s difficult to keep tax rates at 0% but tax rates need to be very minimal. We will have to really look over budgets and make sure they are going after the “need to have” instead of the “want to have”.
Lynne Reynolds: “I like low taxes. I will be looking for efficiencies to reduce the taxes and keep them stable.”
Question #3: Where do you see your community in four years time?
Kevin Kahoot: “I see Ear Falls has making gains every year, especially in the last couple of years, they have got a lot of traction, especially in the community well-being area. Their water rates have finally caught-up to a break-even point”.
Lynne Reynolds: “My agenda will be an agenda for growth. I am looking at attracting more residents and visitors to Ear Falls”.
Question #4: Why should we vote you Mayor?
Kevin Kahoot: “Experience. I’ve been the Mayor in Ear Falls for eight years, KDMA President for four years, and been in business here for 26-years. I volunteer in the community and know people in the community”.
Lynne Reynolds: “I am currently a Councillor in the City of Greater Sudbury and I have been for seven years. I have been able to accomplish a lot of great things for her riding and the City as a whole.”
There are ten challengers for four seats on Council.
