Look At Mayor’s Race In Machin

Two people are in the running for Mayor in Machin.

Residents in the community will cast their ballot in the municipal election on Monday and CKDR News asked both candidates four specific questions.

Here are the answers from Incumbent Drew Myers and Gord Griffiths:

Question #1: What are your main issues as Mayor?

Drew Myers: Infrastructure funding. The community has crumbling infrastructure that needs to be fixed up.

Gord Griffiths: I want to expand the Machin dump site, noting the facility is filling up and they can’t afford to build a new one

Question #2 Stance on tax rates. Is an increase needed?

Drew Myers: I am only supportive of a tax increase that goes along with inflation or the cost of living.

Gord Griffiths: Hold tax increases to the cost of living, noting everything is going up including hydro and fuel prices, adding it’s tough to keep the rate at zero.

Question #3 Where do you see your community in four years time.

Drew Myers: I see Machin becoming more diverse as far as the economy and attracting more talented people who will come for a growing economy and cause the area is a great place to live.

Gord Griffiths: I want see more development, noting Eagle Lake has become a designated as a “Trout Lake”, giving them a chance to develop that area.

Question #4: Why should we vote you Mayor?

Drew Myers: I am optimistic, his family his here, he’s committed to the area and have been for years, adding he believes in the Machin area.

Gord Griffiths: I have the time required to handle the job, noting he’s pretty much retired from his company, adding he does have the political experience needed.
