The NDP is asking the Ford government to increase the number of people eligible for mercury compensation in Grassy Narrows First Nation.
Leader Andrea Horwath says as many as 94% of the residents suffer from some form of exposure to mercury from the English-Wabigoon River System.
She says the community deserves full and fair compensation.
Indigenous Affairs Minister Greg Rickford says as early as last month, the government made changes to the Mercury Disability payments, indexing them to the cost of inflation and updating the 30-year-old registry.
Rickford reminded Horwath that Grassy Narrows isn’t the only community impacted, with a large number of White Dog residents showing the affects of mercury poisoning as well.
