An official at Lakehead University admits more work needs to be done to address racism.
Interim President Moira McPherson insists the accusations of systemic racism by the Dean at the Faculty of Law is a concern to university officials.
She notes the reality is that racism exists and despite all efforts “Lakehead University is not immune.”
McPherson tells us they plan to reach out the Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities to help develop an action plan to move forward, together.
Outgoing Dean Angelique Eaglewoman is hoping this will result in change at the school and says she applauds the university’s efforts to acknowledge a problem.
Eaglewoman believes it’s important to say that things can always be improved and stresses that everyone needs to be open and willing to make change in order to end racism.
She is stepping down and her last day will be June 29th.
