Koeneman Lumber of Rainy River has been fined nearly $50,000 after pleading guilty to 5 violations under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Court heard that in December 2001, a worker had his right thumb severed and the tip of his right index finger chopped off.
It happened when he reached into the cutting area of a chop saw to remove a piece of wood.
An investigation found the company didn’t ensure its workers used proper procedures for locking out the equipment’s control switches.
