Major Setback For New Events Centre In Thunder Bay

It looks like the American Hockey League won’t be coming to Thunder Bay anytime soon.
It appears the new events centre in Thunder Bay may be scrapped.
Council has been told they aren’t eligible for federal funding, including the use of the Federal Gas Tax.
Kenora MP Greg Rickford recently stated the government isn’t using the tax to fund facilities that include an arena.
The City was seeking $23-million from the feds as well as $36-million from the province.
There were talks the Winnipeg Jets farm team would move to the Lakehead if the events centre was built.
