Major Storm Hits Northwest

A weather system packing lots of lighting and heavy rain punched through the region leaving hundreds cleaning up this morning.
Jean Marc, with Environment Canada, says from a forecaster’s standpoint, it was exciting weather.
Marc says the system could have carried as many as 5,500 lighting bolts as it travelled through the Northwest last night.
High winds and torrential rain knocked down branches, uprooted trees and damaged hydro lines in the Dryden area.
Lighting also touched town in parts of the City, splitting a tree on Colonization Ave.
The storm knocked out power to hundreds of customers.
Hydro One is trying to restore power to over 500 customers in Ignace, Eagle River outlying areas of Dryden and Kenora.
No word on when power will be back on.
No property damage has been reported.
Thunder showers are expected this morning but should move out by the afternoon.
