The KI First Nation, formerly known as Big Trout Lake has won a
landmark victory over the Platinex mining company.
An Ontario Superior Court Judge has ruled the company will not be
able to continue exploration activity on their traditional land.
Sierra legal defence fund lawyer justin duncan has been involved in the
dispute and says the judge has maintained control over the case.
The Judge has ordered both sides to sit down and work out the bitter
dispute and report back in 5-months.
He has also ordered the Provincial Government to get involved.
The Judge ruled Platinex didn’t properly consult with the first
nation community when setting up a mining camp on the KI reserve.
Platinex had filed a $10-billion lawsuit which is expected to be thrown out.
