A large number of tickets were handed out across the northwest region during Canada Road Safety Week.
Provincial Police carried out the campaign between May 17 and 23.
OPP report 1,658 traffic stops were made and 1,056 charges were laid.
A majority (1,013) had to do with speeding with three stunt driving charges laid.
Other charges:
-Impaired driving: 15
-No seatbelt: 10 (charges apply to both drivers and passengers)
-Distracted driving: 7
-Careless driving: 6
-Drive while prohibited: 2
Although these are regional numbers police note that Thunder Bay and Greenstone were among some of the highest charges in the province.
