The Tri-Forces Drug Unit in Northwestern Ontario says marijuana is still the drug of choice in the region but cocaine is starting to get a bigger stronghold.
Detective Staff Sargeant John Horne says while the amount of drugs seized was down in 2001, people charged with trafficking offenses rose.
Horne says the main reason for the increase in arrests is due to the fact the drug unit has received more tips from the public.
However, on an encouraging note, he adds the number of young people arrested on drug charges dropped last year.
