A former assistant with the Dryden GM Ice Dogs has been named new Head Coach of the Kenora ‘AAA’ Under-18 Thistles.
Mark Crespeigne has accepted the job.
Crespeigne replaces Scott Parsons following a disappointing 3 win season in 2021-2022.
Three former members of the Ice Dogs came out with testimonials following his hiring:
Cory Dennis (Dryden GM, Concordia University NCAAIII, Pensacola Flyers SPHL)
“Wiz (Crespeigne) was a major influence to me as a hockey player and more importantly, as a person. His willingness to help people succeed is second to none. He guided me along with many others in Dryden with our hockey careers. Endlessly making the drive from Kenora to Dryden to help coach the Ice Dogs regardless of the situation, defines his character in itself. A good-hearted, applauding, compassionate, and all around stand-up coach. Best of luck with the U18 Kenora Thistles, very well deserved.”
Troy Williams (Thunder Bay Kings, Dryden GM, Lakehead University Thunderwolves)
“Having Wiz as my coach early on in my career was huge. The knowledge and the lessons passed on to me were staples of my game where I was able to gain the confidence and skills to play against 19-20 year olds while being 16.”
Kyle Pouncy (Dryden GM, Northland NCAAIII, Utah Grizzlies ECHL)
“I was fortunate enough to have Wiz as my coach in my last year of junior hockey. It happened to be one of the most memorable seasons and he was a major reason it was so special because he CARED. From my experience the best coaches are the ones that truly care because as a player it makes you want to work that much harder for them. Wiz was one these coaches. His passion and investment not only in the team and it’s success, but in the individual and their personal growth is extremely hard to find. I’ll never forget his contagious smile and positive attitude that he brought to the rink everyday. In a sport that can be cruel at times he is a breath of fresh air. There’s no doubt his heart is always in the right place which makes him such an ideal candidate to coach the future of the sport. I can confidently say that if I had a child playing hockey and Wiz was their coach, my mind would be at ease. Through his help and guidance I’ve learnt a lot about hockey and life in general. He not only wants you to be the best hockey player you can be, but more importantly the best person the best person. I’m still able to play the game I love to this day and he’s on of the people that can thank for that.”
