Tragedy In Sleeping Giant Provincial Park

A southern Ontario resident camping alone in a remote area of Sleeping Giant Provincial Park has been found dead.

Park staff filed a missing person report Wednesday morning after the individuals vehicle permit expired.

Police learned he had not been seen since Monday.

Provincial Police in Thunder Bay, the Canadian Coast Guard, along with a Ministry of Natural Resources helicopter responded and searched the shoreline and neighbouring islands.

About four hours after the search was launched, OPP Emergency Response Team members located a kayak and the missing person, who was deceased in Lake Superior along the Sleeping Giant Peninsula shoreline.

The victim has been identified as 57 year old Alexander Hay of Ottawa.

No foul play is suspected and the Coroner has been contacted.
