Born January 22, 1959, Mark Edward Lukacin, “LUKE” to his friends, lived his life to the fullest. He loved spending time with his many friends and their families and always had a place in his heart for his brothers and sister and their children. Mark was active in sports but especially loved hockey and looked forward every Christmas to the DHS Alumni Tournament and the Old Timers Tournament in the spring. Although he was living in Port Moresby, New Guinea for the past 2 and a half years, he never forgot his friends and family back home in Canada. Mark was quite the entrepreneurial, and was involved in many industries from concrete to building construction. His adventurous spirit brought him several times to the South Pacific where he actively participated in working on a sheep farm in New Zealand, heli logging in New Zealand, and constructing a saw in mill in New Guinea. His last endeavour had him managing a housing complex in Port Moresby. Mark was a man of strong opinions and loyal to his friends. His abrupt departure from this life on Sunday, July 14, 2002 has left a hole that will be difficult to fill. He was predeceased by his mother, Gertrude Lukacin in 1993. He is survived by his father, Mr. John Lukacin of Dryden, his brothers, Jim (Terry) of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Denis (Dianne) of Ancaster, Ontario, his sister Linda (Richard) Harder of Dryden, Ontario, and his nieces and nephews; Jaime-Lynn, John, Kyle, Kristin, Derek, Eric, Sara, Terry (Micheline, Savannah & Ethan), Regan (Desiree). Also left behind is his good “buddy” Hughie Mason of Dryden, and his many, many friends too numerous to mention who were all a part of his extended family (you know who you are). We will miss you Mark. Visitation for the late Mark Lukacin will be held on Wednesday, July17, 2002 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with prayers at 7:00 p.m. at the Dryden Community Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church on Thursday, July 18, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. with Father Luigi Filippini officiating. Interment of ashes at a later date. If friends so desire donations may be made to Northern Cancer Research or charity of choice, through the Dryden Community Funeral Home, 249 Grand Trunk Avenue, Dryden, Ontario, P8N 2X3.
