The City of Kenora has upped the ante in the doctor recruitment process in the region.
Kenora City Council is expected to approve a deal between the community and the Kenora District Credit Union.
The plan would mean new doctors moving to Kenora would get a 40-thousand dollar bonus.
The province already offers doctors an incentive of 10-thousand dollars a year for four years to work in underserviced areas like Northwestern Ontario. The Kenora plan would see the doctors receive the money “up front” as an interest-free loan, backed by the Credit Union. The loan would then be paid off by the annual payments from the Province.
