Maria (Mary) Loreta Etherington, age 85 years passed away peacefully on Monday, October 3, 2011 in Dryden Regional Health Centre.

Mary was born in Fort William, Thunder Bay ON on April 5, 1926 and resided in Ignace ON as an amazing homemaker who enjoyed cooking, bingo, luncheons, gardening, knitting for the White Elephant sale, ambulance attendants and many more people. Mary was an avid school board member, Anglican Church member, honourary Royal Canadian Legion member, honourary Red Hat Ladies and Silver Tops member.

Mary is survived by son John, daughter in law Irene, step-daughter June, brothers Guido Leonzio of Thunder Bay and Louie Leonzio of Dryden, sisters Claira Leonzio of Thunder Bay and Kay Kenter of Oakdale California. Mary also is survived by 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary will always be remembered by everyone as a warm kind hearted woman and she was a very special mother and grandmother who will be sadly missed.

Predeceased by her parents Louisa and Antonio Leonzio, her bothers Paul and Rocci and her sisters Agnes and Gracie.

Please join us in a celebration of Mary’s life on Saturday, October 8th, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in Emmanuel Anglican/United Church, Pine Street, Ignace. Interment will follow in the Ignace Cemetery and a luncheon will be held at the Northwoods. If friends so desire donation may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation through Stevens Funeral Homes P.O. Box 412, Dryden ON. P8N 2Z1.
