Mauro Talks Changes To Moose Hunt

Bill Mauro is vowing to consider everything when it comes to a significant decline in moose numbers.

To the dismay of many hunters, Ontario is issuing fewer moose tags this year, in an effort to help the population rebound.

Mauro, who’s the minister of natural resources, says the hunting community continues to be critical of the Ministry’s approach because they feel the Ministry only ever manages the hunter. Mauro says he’s made a commitment to contemplate other varriables during the second phase of the moose project. The consultation piece will launch later this year.

Mauro adds he’s working hard to ensure Ontario’s tourism groups aren’t hit hard by the new hunt restrictions. He says the Ministry won’t do anything that’ll put tourist outfitters at risk.

He notes changes to the moose hunt will be enforced for however long it takes to reverse the trend. (File photo)
