McKenzie Lumber Fined $48,000

A hefty fine for McKenzie Lumber in Hudson.

Following a trial, the company has been found guilty and fined $48,000 after a worker’s arm was crushed by an industrial log-sawing machine.

The incident happened on March 12th, 2013.

The machine’s master control panel that contains the lock-outs for the electrical and hydraulic suffered a breakdown on that day.

During maintenance a production worker noted that a piece of metal was on the machine’s conveyor belt and went to remove it.

A second worker finished his duties and went over to switch the control box on.

However, he didn’t notice the production worker still had his arm below the side canters of the machine and it was crushed when the canters closed.

The company has also been ordered to pay a 25% victim fine surcharge.
