Med School Tackling Algae In Our Lakes

New funding for the Northern Ontario School of Medicine could help tackle the algae problem in our region’s lakes.

Professor Greg Ross explains they’re getting $1 million dollar investment from the federal government for a project to detect toxic algae faster and more accurately.

“It’s going to give us the opportunity to acquire some brand new technologies and use a brand new strategy to really tackle one of the problems in our region that is significant to our health.”

Ross says NOSM and Discover Air Fire Services will develop airplane-mounted cameras to identify algae from the air.
