Mediators have now been appointed in the Canada Post contract dispute.
Labour Minister and Thunder Bay-Superior North MP Patty Hajdu says Canadians expect the two sides to work towards a settlement.
Hajdu says in this case both parties agreed that a mediator would be helpful in negotiations.
She says they have an incredibly skilled federal mediation service and they are pleased to offer that service.
Hajdu believes the collective bargaining process works and she says the government is just there to keep the conversation going.
A strike or a lockout will be legal on September 26th and would involve 50,000 unionized employees in two bargaining units.
