Ontario’s top medical health official is urging local residents to get their flu shot if they haven’t already.
It takes up to two weeks for the flu vaccine to fully boost your immunity, and Dr. David Williams says the sooner you get your shot the better, noting you have lots of choices of where to get it.
Dr. Williams says the vaccine is available at pharmacies, public health units and health clinics.
He notes flu symptoms can be very serious and even fatal for high risk groups, including the elderly and children.
This year’s flu vaccine for adults protects against two strains of Influenza-A and one strain of Influenza-B.
The vaccine for children protects against a second strain of influenza-B as well.
Dr. David Williams says he’s confident the vaccine is safe.
