A big step in improving healthcare in the region was made today.
Construction officially started on the Northern Ontario School of Medicine Thunder Bay Campus after a ground-breaking ceremony this morning.
Dean Dr. Roger Strasser says it’s a major development in keeping medical professionals in the North to work.
Strasser says while they are accepting applications from across Canada, they want to target local residents.
Strasser is expecting some 2,000 applications for both the Thunder Bay and Sudbury Campuses.
There will be 24 spots available in the west region.
Classes are expected to start on time next September.
