The Northern Ontario Medical School will look to maximize the intake of students from Northern and rural environments.
Founding Dean Dr. Roger Strasser says the new program will have a “made in the North” approach.
Strasser is also hoping to attract more aboriginal students and professors.
He also wants students to feel at home as they live, work and study in the communities they will eventually practise in.
The new Medical School, with campuses in Thunder Bay and Sudbury, is expected to begin accepting students in the Fall of 2004.
The Province will announce their financial contribution at a press conference Wednesday afternoon.
