Mesaba files for bankruptcy 2

There won’t be any changes in service at the Mesaba Airlines counter in the Fall’s International Airport, at least not yet.

Yesterday, the carrier between International Falls and Minneapolis filed for protection under Chapter 11 of the bankruptcy code, but the effects on outstations such as the Falls is not known.

Northwest Airlines declared bankruptcy last month, and since then has missed $30 million in payments to Mesaba, their source for revenue.

In reports, Mesaba president John Spanjers admitted they will have to go through restructuring to match their revenue, and that meant there would be layoffs.

Mesaba Airlines flies daily between the Falls and Minneapolis, one of about 100 routes the smaller carrier makes in connection with Northwest.
