The Metis Nation of Ontario has a stake in a proposed gold project near Atikokan.
It has signed a shared interest agreement with Canadian Malartic regarding its Hammond Reef Gold project.
Metis Nation president Gary Lipinski says it includes provisions to how local Métis community will benefit economically and with jobs.
Lipinski says it also brings a mutual agreement to help protect the environment and maintain communication.
The Metis has signed similar agreements with Detour Gold near Timmins and New Gold.
