Michael Gravelle Addressing Infrastructure Needs

The Minister of Northern Development and Mines says he remains in talks with local leaders on their infrastructure needs.

Calls continue to be made on the need to change the funding formula for essential projects.

Michael Gravelle says he understands that most municipalities can’t afford their share of the current one-third funding formula.

Gravelle says their goal is to make it as easy as possible for communities to access infrastructure funds and make the criteria work for those funds.

The Thunder Bay MPP adds the government is sensitive and conscious of how they need to work with local, business and First Nations leaders on how they can advance various projects.

Gravelle admits there’s a shortfall in funding for major water, sewer and bridge work, as well as economic development opportunities.
